I am back!!

Ok if you were wondering, no I didn't drop off the face of the earth. Things have been pretty crazy around here the last month. And I have to admit my picture taking has been as bad as my blogging, so not too many pictures sorry. So here is a quick run down of what we have been up to this last month. Hailey turned 8 on July 29th. We celebrated with some family and friends by having a BBQ at the lake just like she wanted. It was a lot of fun. It is really hard to believe how fast she has grown up. August 3rd thru the 9th we survived our first county fair. For those of you who may not have every had this experience let me explain. Alyssa is in 4-H, and so through out the year she works on projects to present/show at fair. So this year she participated in shooting sports, where she continued to learn and improver her shooting skills (yes, with a gun). Cooking, she ended up taking cookies and banana bread to fair. Horse, she barrel races and rides in a timed event where she has to weav...

Boys will be Boys?

This is what happens at my house when I try to put the boys in front of a movie so that I can try to do some cleaning. I come back and find this...... And the worst part....we can't even blame the girls for this because they weren't home, but at least they were watching the movie.

Let the challenge begin!

The girls' newest craze is watching the food network. (I know I should be happy about this there are a ton of other things they could be watching that are A LOT worse.) One of their favorite shows is a show where there are teams of two people who are given a theme, a time limit, and only the products provided to them. With these things they have to create cakes, some of them are pretty amazing. They are then judged on how well they did, and a winner is chosen. Well The kids decided to have a challenge of their own. So we made some play dough and they went at it. They were going to make just "cakes" but in the end we came up with some pretty neat creations. Who would have know that this would keep them busy and happy for the last three days and many more to come!! It even helps us learn our letters!! Korbyn couldn't stay away either. Although he wasn't sure about the taste, but the hand prints were cute. Caysen and Brayden had fun making footballs of all co...

Learning to ride a bike, Barkhurst style!!

Image
First the pep talk. The running seat hold. Always a good start. When all else fails lead by example. Maybe on a bike more your size? With that example in mind and a new bike seat, (way to go dad) we are ready to try it out our self. After a few falls, don't worry nothing serious, and a few run-ins with the tree, (The tree survived), we think we might just have it. SUCCESS!!!!! I did it daddy, I knew I could!! -Caysen

Yes that is snow!!

Image
I was up-loading the pictures from my camera to my computer and saw these and thought I would share them with you. They were taken on June 25th after our last snow storm of the season, (or at least what I hope to be the last one, living in Wyoming you never do know) we went up on the mountain that we live on to see how much snow was still there. And this is what we found. These pics were taken pretty far down the mountain, at the top the liniater posts were still covered!! So if you really don't like snow and cold, here is another reason not to move here, as if you really wanted to anyway right:) Notice Alyssa is the only one with a coat and gloves on. The others refused to wear them they claimed it was too hot.

Once in a life time

This last week we had a really unique opportunity to get to travel to Salt Lake City with some of the youth and primary age kids in our ward. While we were there we got to tour Temple square and watch an awesome movie. We also went to the rock quarry to see where the rock for the temple came from and was taken to the temple site 20 miles away. While there we learned that even though we were in Zion, crime still exists. One of the cars we were traveling with was broken into and their purses, cell phones, and navigation system was stolen. That did put a little bit of a damper on our time there but, we were very privileged and blessed to get to then go to a special fireside with Sister Lynne Cannegieter. Sister Cannegieter has been the personal secretary for Thomas S. Monson since 1964 shortly after he became a general authority in 1963. She is probably the person who knows the Prophet best, other than his wife, and is the first woman in church history to be the secretary to a Prophet. We...
